Barcelona’s coaching methodology boosts Bayelsa’s 2026 Prosperity Cup

 

The globally acclaimed coaching methodology of FC Barcelona will impact on the Bayelsa State Prosperity Cup, as Season 8 of the tournament this year signals a partnership with the La Liga side. 

Director General of the tournament, Ono Akpe, disclosed this in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Akpe stated that the partnership with the Barcelona brand is a testament to the Prosperity Cup’s commitment to excellence and its reputation as one of Nigeria’s premier grassroots football tournaments.

Known for its famous La Masia that unearths youngsters for its first team, Barcelona coaches will conduct an international coaching clinic in Yenagoa from February 23 through 25, in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development and the Bayelsa State Football Association.

Increase In Prize

In celebration of Bayelsa State’s 30th anniversary and the tournament 8th edition, organisers have announced an increased in prize money of N30 million for the male category and N10 million for the female category,

‎Akpe appreciated the Bayelsa State government, lead sponsor, Premium Trust Bank, Linkage Assurance, the Nigerian Customs Service and other sponsors for their massive support that has led to the growth of the competition.‎

‎Action gets underway from March 1, 2026, with 30 centres across the state hosting preliminary rounds, while Local Government finals will run from April 8 through 20.

The final will be decided on May 2, 2026.
