Barau remains on top of EuroMatchNPFL, as Ikorodu City earn sweet revenge over Rangers

Barau FC remains at the top of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League table after an eventful Matchday 6 that produced several important results across the country.

The Kano side began match day six at the summit and retained their position after a 1–1 draw with Sporting Lagos on Saturday, taking their points tally to 12.

Joseph Atule maintained his impact player role as he converted a first half penalty to give his side the lead.

However, Sporting Lagos responded in the second half and got a well-deserved equalizer when Sadiq Ayoade hit a rebound after Barau goalkeeper, Emeka Nwabulu, parried a header.

 

Revenge

One of the biggest results of the day came in Lagos, where Ikorodu City defeated defending champions Enugu Rangers 2–0 to earn a sweet revenge.

Last term, Rangers won the title after defeating Ikorodu 2-1 on the last day of the season, in Lagos and denied the club a chance to finish third.

Nigerian International, Aderemi Adeoye, gave the hosts the lead in the eighth minute through an awesome freekick, then Ikechukwu Junior doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute.

Enyimba celebrate first point of 2026/27 season

Bottom of the table Enyimba finally picked their first point after four fruitless attempts following their goalless draw with Kano Pillars at a packed Sani Abacha Stadium.

Once upon a time, this fixture attracted the attention of entire country, but Enyimba’s poor form in recent times has reduced its rating.

It is not yet uhuru for Emmanuel Deutch’s troubled side, but this could restore confidence needed to push for results and earn the trust of the home fans again.

The draw also came as Kano Pillars marked veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali’s 46th birthday.

 

Others

Gbenga Ogunbote’s Plateau United moved into second place with 11 points after a comfortable 2–0 victory over Inter Lagos, in Jos.

Gideon Monday opened the scoring in the 56th minute, while Jibrin Ibrahim added the second in the 76th minute.

Abia Warriors also produced an impressive performance defeating Bendel Insurance 3–0 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Ikoi Etta opened the scoring in the 16th minute, while Emeka Obioma scored in the 24th and 40th minutes to complete his brace.

 

The duo returned to the scoring ways as they scored goals that earned the club victory

 

Nasarawa United secured a 1–0 win over Niger Tornadoes, with Harrison Ebah scoring the only goal in the 20th minute.

It was good news for Kun Khalifat who edged Kwara United 1–0 through Agor Chukwuma’s 64th-minute goal to claim their first win this term.

Warri Wolves also defeated Shooting Stars by the same scoreline, courtesy of Othuke Egbo strike in the eighth minute.

In Katsina, Katsina United claimed a 2–1 victory over Doma United.

 

Top 4 v Bottom 4

Plateau United is second behind Barau with 11 points, while Rivers United and Rangers follow with 10 points each.

At the other end of the table are Niger Tornadoes, Kun Khalifat, Inter Lagos and Enyimba.

For the second week, Enyimba remain at the bottom of the 20-team log.
