Inter gain promotion to boost Lagos’ presence in Nigeria’s top-flight

Innovative Inter Lagos have gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League to boost Lagos’ status after sharing points with neighbours, Smart City, in a Nigeria National match.

With Inter’s promotion, the Lagos derby in the NPFL resumes next season with the presence of Ikorodu City, who already play home matches at the same facility.

Founded in 2023, by entrepreneur, Lanre Vigo, the club made the Nigeria National League playoff in 2024 but failed to gain promotion to the topflight.

With a new format that will have only winners of conferences gaining promotion for the 2025/26 NNL season Inter moved into a commanding lead and maintained their place at the top of the log ahead of their closest rivals, Beyond Limits.

The relegated NPFL duo of Heartland and Sunshine Stars also played in the same conference with the Lagos side.

Inter needed a draw to move ahead of others and Adebayo Oyedele’s tonic provided the goal to make the dream real.

A second team, Sporting Lagos, look good to join Inter Lagos, at the conclusion of matches in the other conferences.

Inter becomes the second club to secure promotion from the NNL this season, after Doma United FC.

The winners of the two remaining conferences will join them in the topflight next season.
