Rivers United celebrate first NPFL title in grand style

 

 

 

With OWU Sportswear’s eye-catching jersey designed for their Nigeria Professional Football League coronation, Rivers United ended the 2021/22 season in style with a lone goal victory over Gombe United.

Man-Of-The-Moment, Chijioke Akuneto’s goal was the “icing on the cake” as the Port-Harcourt side had claimed the title with three match days to go in the season.

It was double celebration for Akuneto who hit target to take his tally to 19 and finish as the highest goal scorer.

Rivers United reached seventh heaven with 77 points to finish 10 points ahead of closest rivals, Plateau United, on 67 points. The club dominated in attack and defense with 58 goals scored and 24 conceded.

Watched by a capacity crowd that included Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who midwifed the club, Rivers United came fully prepared for their coronation with music for the occasion.

Other guests included the Honourable Minster for Sports, Sunday Dare, League Management Company Chairman, Shehu Dikko as well as the LMC CEO, Davidson Owumi.
