Champions: Remo Stars rule NPFL

Enterprising Olamilekan Adedayo ensured Remo Stars emerged champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season after a hard earned 1-0 victory over a resilient Niger Tornadoes side, on Sunday.

Friday’s result in Kano which ended 2-0 in favour of Kano Pillars against second placed Rivers United created a huge opportunity for Remo to leverage on in front of their partisan fans.

Adedayo was introduced in the 79th minute and he responded with a great individual goal five minutes later (84th minute) to earn his side a place in the record books.

Apart Fabian Nworie who won the League at Rivers United and Ifeanyi Anaemena, who won the League with Enyimba, others in the Ikenne side were winning for the first time.

In and Out Of NPFL

Founded in 2004, Remo reached the NPFL for the first time in 2015 and were relegated immediately.

The team fought their way back in 200 and for the second time lost their top flight status.

Metamorphosis

Remo has since metamorphosed into a three side Since returning during the 2021/22 season.

After finishing third at the end of the 2021/22 season, the club improved the next season (2022/23) by finishing second behind champions, Rivers United. In fact, it was close, and Rivers won the title on goals difference.

Another attempt in the 2023/24 season was eventful, but the club lost steam after starting well.

Rangers came from behind to eventually emerged run away champions, while Remo finished for the second time as runners-up.
