Nigerian defender, Semi Ajayi, is back in the Premier League after his team, Hull City, defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 to win the playoff final.

City had earlier defeated Millwall 2-0 to qualify for the final.
It has been a week of drama as Hull were scheduled to play Southampton, but eventually faced Middlesbrough following the expulsion of Saints.
Ajayi, who was in Nigeria’s squad at the last AFCON played all 90 minutes to help his side to a clean sheet.

It is a return to the top flight for Ajayi who represented West Brom in the Premier League and scored his first Premier League goal in a 1–1 away draw against champions Liverpool, on December 27, 2020.

Apart from Ajayi, former Nigerian skipper, Austin Okocha has also played for Hull. Okocha played for Hull during the 2007/8 season.
