Akwa Ibom to inaugurate Eket Stadium Friday

 

 

 

 

The Akwa Ibom State government will on Friday inaugurate the newly constructed Eket Stadium.

Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is expected to inaugurate the stadium, which is part of activities making the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Built as an all-cover stadium, on the same ground where defunct Mobil Pegasus Football Club played home games, it boosts of the latest facilities to accommodate multiple sports.

Apart from football, the 18,000 capacity stadium will also has facilities for athletics, basketball and tennis amongst others.

Friday’s opening ceremony will feature a friendly match between the state owned Akwa United, which campaigns in the Nigeria Professional Football League and Katsina United, which recently lost its top flight status.

When the new football season resumes, it will serve as home ground for some of the state owned teams in the league.
