At the age of 19, Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has become the first football player to walk the runway for fashion giant Balenciaga.
The France international, who attended numerous fashion shows during last month’s Paris Fashion Week, was chosen to model for the luxury fashion house during Demna Gvasalia’s second couture show on Wednesday.
He was joined on the runway by actress Nicole Kidman, American socialite Kim Kardashian and singer Dua Lipa.
A presentation of the 51st Couture Collection was posted to Balenciaga’s Instagram page to celebrate one of the most-anticipated events on the fashion calendar.
Camavinga isn’t the only footballer to walk the fashion runway. Back in 2019, former Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin made a surprise appearance at Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton show in Paris.
Bellerin said he was honoured to participate in the event.
“I’d been asked before but I didn’t think it was the right time then and when I got the news that Virgil wanted me to walk for his Louis Vuitton show it was a no brainer,” the Spaniard told Vogue.
“I was on holidays but I needed to go regardless. I’m very happy [to have walked] – it felt really good.”
Back in 2020, fashion giants Balenciaga released their own ‘Soccer Sneakers’ [their words not mine], and in doing so, they slapped a hefty £595 price tag on the leather-free boots.
The so-called ‘sneakers’ were reworked for everyday wear as opposed to athletic activities, while the company’s famous branding is visable on a retro foldable tongue.
