
Nembe Local Government Area based Okoroma United and Active Ladies of Agudama have emerged champions in the men and women’s Prosperity Cup finals, decided in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Okoroma United defeated Akinima/Biogbo 1-0 to win the men’s finals decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa. It was their first title.
Erasmus Noble’s 18th minute goal gave the Nembe side their deserved victory in what was an interesting final.
Noble continued from where he stopped in the semi final where he scored a hat-trick against Mountain of the Lord Deliverance Ministry.
It was the first title for Okoroma United and reward for hard work from the Local Government preliminaries.
In the women’s category, Active Ladies defeated defending champions, Afini Ladies of Amarata 1-0.
Charity Ughwumioma scored in the 32nd minute to give her side the lead till the interval.
Both sides returned from the break with renewed vigor, but the scoreline remained unchanged till the final whistle.
Reward
Champions, Okoroma United received ₦30,000,000, while second placed Akinima/Biogbo went home with ₦10,000,000, Mountain of the Lord Deliverance Ministry, MLDM FC received ₦5,000,000 as second runner up.
Former champions, Krosaders FC smiled home with the sum of ₦2,000,000 for coming fourth.
Women’s champions, Active Ladies were rewarded with the sum of ₦10,000,000, while second laced Afini Ladies, received ₦5,000,000.
Third placed team got ₦2,000,000 while the 4th placed got ₦1,000,000, with other consolation prizes.
Para-Soccer champions, Shadrack Sports Academy got ₦1.5 million naira for their triumph, with the total prize money amounting to ₦80,000,000.
The final also witnessed an historic signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU for the setting up of the FC Barcelona-affiliated Bayelsa Starlets Academy.
