Determined to scout the best up-and-coming talents in the 2025 Prosperity Cup, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Duoye Diri, has approved the invitation of Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen, for the knock out stages of the Governor’s Cup tournament tagged Prosperity.
Since inception, the competition backed by Diri has become a pathway for un-and-coming footballers in Bayelsa State to develop a career in professional football.
Eguavoen will lead 10 others coaches to Bayelsa in a bid to fulfill Diri’s dream of providing opportunities for talented youngsters to take their career to the next level.
Director General of the Prosperity Cup, Ono Akpe, disclosed this in a television interview.
He said ” Eguavoen and the other coaches will be in Yenagoa for one week leading to the final. They will be coming to watch the quarter finals, semi finals and the grand finale.
“It is our expectation that more Bayelsa youths will be picked up by club sides across the country”.
The fact that 2023 Prosperity Cup discovery Precious Benjamin, was a squad member of Nigeria’s Under-20 national football team that won bronze in the just-concluded AFCON U-20 Championship, in Morocco, confirms Diri’s quest to look out for more talents.
Benjamin presently plays for the youth team of Bundesliga side, TSG Hoffenheim.
The grand finale of the Prosperity Cup has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Over 200 teams registered for the competition this year to boost its profile as the biggest grassroots tournament in Nigeria.
