Former Nigerian champions, Bendel Insurance, returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League following their 2-1 win over El-Kanemi Warriors, in Saturday’s match decided at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin-City and extended their unbeaten run this term to 15 match days.
Since their home win over Enyimba, the side had gone five match days without a win after consecutive draws on the road at Enyimba, Plateau United and Remo Stars. It was the same situation when Akwa United and Kwara United visited Benin-City.
The first half ended goalless, but Insurance scored the opener through Ismael Seriki, in the 54th minute, while teammate, Austin Ogunye, doubled their lead four minutes later.
El-Kanemi Warriors continued to push and eventually pulled one back when Mohammed Hussaini converted a spot kick on the 64th minute following an infringement in the vital area.
With the victory on Saturday, Insurance move to 31 points on the log in Group A, while El-Kanemi Warriors remain at the bottom of the log.
The top three in both groups qualify for the PlayOffs after the completion of the regular season.
