Enugu Rangers, Shooting Stars in race to join Enyimba for Dozy Mmobuosi jackpot

Enugu Rangers and Shooting Stars will go into match day three action today with high hopes as they chase a place in the final of the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup against Enyimba.

With six points from consecutive victories over oriental foes, Rangers and newly promoted Bendel Insurance, Enyimba is already guaranteed of a place in the finals.

Enyimba v Shooting Stars

Chijioke Mbaoma and Chibuike Nwaiwu, both recruited from relegated Heartland and former Nasarawa United forward, Sunday Okereke, have shown the new Enyimba side is capable of returning the club to glory days of the
past.

The trio has justified their presence at Enyimba and wormed their way into the hearts of the fans, while Mbaoma and Nwaiwu have claimed Man-Of-The-Match awards, in the competition.

Today’s match against Shooting Stars will be of more importance to the Ibadan side.

The Oluyole Warriors already have a win and point which positions them for a vantage position to contest for the jackpot.

However, Enyimba is unbeaten, which makes it a difficult task for the Ibadan side.

Confidence is high and the fans of the Ibadan side can beat their drums hoping that youngsters like Samuel Ayanrinde, Taofeek Malomo and Cletus Emotan can make an ambitious quest for victory.

Emotan was Man-Of-The-Match against Insurance.

Bendel Insurance v Rangers

The clash between perennial rivals, Bendel Insurance and Rangers presents another dose of their age long rivalry which dates back to 1972 when both sides played in the first Nigerian league season.

Insurance won their first league title in 1973 and Rangers took over in 1974.

Both sides met in the 1978 Nigerian Cup finals which Insurance claimed with a 3-0 victory. The duo share a rich history in domestic football fixtures and have produced some of Nigeria’s best stars.

Sadly, Insurance have lost twice against Shooting Stars as well as Enyimba and seek for a consolation victory over their old foes to bow out in style.

For Rangers, a win against the “Edo Arsenal” and a defeat for Shooting Stars could push them into the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup final against Enyimba.

Abdul Maikaba’s wards have to do something different to make an impact today.

Chidiebere Nwobodo and Shedrack Asiegbu must rise up to the occasion to put a smaile on Maikaba’s face.

With three goals against Enyimba, Insurance believe they can score against Rangers.

Head Coach, Monday Odigie, will bank on Divine Nwachukwu, Micah Ojodumo and Sodje Stephens to turn the table around.
