Owusportwear innovates with jacquard fabric in NPFL to boost brand storytelling

At an impressive gathering of media executives in Lagos, on Wednesday, Nigeria’s leading sportswear producer, Owusportswear, took its brand storytelling to new heights with the unveiling of the iconic jacquard fabric for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Backed with its rich history, dedication to customer experience and visual style, Owu has successfully built emotional connections with consumers, such as top stars and stakeholders in the sports ecosystem.

OWU continues with kit deals for top sides Rivers United, Abia Warriors and Kwara United, who will wear the jacquard fabric, thereby creating new pathways for growth, engagement and brand perception.

Rivers United finished behind champions, Remo Stars last season, while Abia Warriors posted their best ever performance as second runner-up to finish ahead of rivals, Enyimba and Kwara United claimed a first title in their history as Cup champions.

Wednesday’s event was part of OWU’s annual pre-season ritual to meet with the media executives and reveal how it’s enhancing brand appeal amongst footballers and fans.

Speaking at the event, Founder/CEO OWU Sportswear, Tunji Brown, applauded his team for working assiduously to achieve this feat.

“We are pleased to introduce the jacquard fabric to the NPFL as our latest collection and contribution to the NPFL. Every season, we think about adding something new to make players comfortable wearing our jerseys.

“We are proud to make this happen as it is similar to what some of the global sportswear brands in the industry are also using for their teams”, Brown said.

A distinctive element of the jacquard fabric is it subtle intricate tonal pattern, providing a unique texture to the shirt.

Interestingly, all three teams will play in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup during the 2025/26 season.

Over the years, no fewer than 14 NPFL teams, 20 teams in the second tier Nigeria National League, 75 amateur league teams and 200 academy teams spread across the country have experienced the OWU brand.

Sportwear deals with clubs in Ghana, Benin Republic and the United States has since earned the brand international recognition.

Apart from its kitting deal in football, OWU has extended to other sports.

Nigeria’s leading female basketball brand, MFM Basketball, proudly wears OWU sportswear since their formation.

To underscore its position as the leading sportswear brand in the sector, OWU kits Nigeria’s Handball, Squash and Badminton national teams.

Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, was kitted by OWU during the last Summer Olympics, in Paris.
