Nigeria’s foremost independent football awards platform, the League Bloggers Awards (LBA), will honour former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa at its 2026 ceremony celebrating outstanding players and coaches from the 2025/26 season.

Musa, who currently serves as both General Manager and captain of Kano Pillars, has scored six goals and provided four assists.

Beyond his performances on the pitch, his influence also helped the club secure French media outlet RFI as shirt sponsor.

LBA co-founder, Ojeikere Aikhoje, disclosed the planned recognition as preparations intensify for the 2026 edition of the awards.

Aikhoje praised Musa for his commitment to the growth of Nigerian football and youth development, especially as it concerns the NPFL.

“Interestingly, Musa shares an important connection with the LBA, as the awards initiative was conceived during the 2009/10 season when he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals, surpassing Ishaya Jatau’s previous record of 17 goals,” Aikhoje said.

He added that the recognition is particularly significant because Musa remains the only active Super Eagles player/captain to return to the Nigeria Professional Football League during his playing career.

Describing Musa as an influential figure in the NPFL, Aikhoje noted that the forward’s presence even during away fixtures has enhanced the match-day experience for fans and players alike.

He also holds the record as the most capped Nigerian player with 111 caps for the Super Eagles.

Back in 2013, he was in the Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations, in South Africa.

Man Of The Moment

Musa clearly deserves his LBA recognition for creating a positive image for the NPFL, using football for social change with his philanthropic role and creating impactful conversations with his story which began as a young lad waiting for his chance to get in front of the Rwang Pam Stadium fans of Jos University Teaching Hospital  (JUTH FC) during the 2008/9 season.
